Introducing the Intel-Compatible MB842 for Mainstream Intel Motherboards – Optimized for x8/x4/x4 PCIe Configurations
At ICY DOCK, we understand the limitations of most Intel mainstream and mid-tier motherboards in handling PCIe bifurcation settings. Currently, only specific Intel chipsets, such as X299/X299X/X399 (Gen 3) and W790 (Gen 5), support x4x4x4x4 PCIe configurations, allowing the existing MB842 to detect and operate two NVMe SSDs seamlessly. However, the majority of other Intel chipsets are limited to x8/x4/x4 configurations, where the MB842 can only detect one SSD due to the x8 allocation on the second channel. To address this gap, we are exploring the development of a new version of the MB842, specifically tailored for Intel chipsets that do not support x4x4x4x4 configurations. This new variant would enable compatibility with x8/x4/x4 PCIe settings, allowing users to fully utilize both SSD slots even on chipsets outside of the high-end workstation or server categories.
